Cattleya Orchids

Cattelya Orchids

Cattelya Orchids

Another of the many orchid specimens from the Bolz Conservatory in Olbrich Botanical Gardens in Madison. This orchid is of the Cattletya species and is grown natively from Costa Rica to tropical South America, though I am happy to get the privilege of seeing it in our hot house (or greenhouse) in our cold city. The cattelya orchids can be found in almost any color except black or blue. I rather like lavendar orchids. This one is no exception.

Mmm, pretty. The color and freckling reminds me of the photo of passion flower that QM took this past summer.

Very nice image, Bo. I love the tiny little water drops on the beautiful blossoms.

Lovely orchids. . .it must be great to be in a greenhouse this time of year.

I missed a couple of days & I’m catching up on your site. This one is slightly different (180 degrees) from the winter shot. Beautiful in color, contrast and climate.

I got a new orchid for New Years, but have been shy to post it, because it has… um…

some visual peculiarities. They come in some lovely, bizarre and sometimes shameless shapes, orchids do, don’t they?
