Quincy IL - Dogwood City
Travel down the streets in Quincy. Illinois on a spring day and you’ll see why it’s been recognized as a Tree City USA.
During the annual Dogwood Festival, the Dogwood trees seem to compete in their own beauty pageant. Every yard seems to sport its own tree, a mixture of creamy white blossomed trees and the more familiar pink Dogwood flowers.
The annual Dogwood Festival will be held next weekend, May 2 through 4, 2008, though I should be returned to my home in Madison by that time. I’m anxious to see what the last blast of winter did to my just-peeking-out bulbs and perennials, not to mention my own flowering trees.
Dogwoods are so beautiful. I sure wish we had them here!

My dogwood died a few years back and I miss it so much! This makes me want to run out and buy a new one…

montucky ~ I took these shots about 300 miles south of my current home. I’m thinking of bringing a bare root up and babying it to see if it would grow. We are zone 4 and not rally hardy enough, but it’s worth a try.

The shadow play on the petals is magnificant. I also love that contrast of the pink with the blue sky.
Your first shot took my breath away. No kidding. I’ve noticed in a lot of your work - you play with skies… bright blue with little or no distraction in them; simplicity. Breathtaking!!!
