Cheating on Spring

Daffodils

I do not feel bad about cheating on Spring at all. If she won’t give me flowers and color, I can always visit my sanity- saving hide-out, the city’s botanical gardens. Olbrich Gardens has several components, all of which I photograph with regularity.

Outside is a 16 acre display garden including the Rose Garden, Summer Garden, Formal Garden, Wildflower Gardens and the Thai Pavilion and Gardens to name a few. The Thai Pavilion is very unusual and I’ll do a photo post on the Pavilion in the next few days.

Indoor there is a tropical paradise, The Bolz Conservatory, which is a tropical rainforest in a pyramidal glass structure - canopy trees, exotics, waterfalls, orchids, free flying birds. All are a part of this, just a step away from Wisconsin’s winters.

The Gardens also sponsor shows around the year, and this daffodil was a part of “Spring in the City - An Urban Garden” held the week before Easter. (an indoor show, obviously)

So if my photo blog is an eclectic mix of orchids, winter gardens, tropical flowers and spring garden flowers - this is why.

I do hope to photograph my OWN gardens and the nearby woodlands’ wildflowers soon - hopefully in a few weeks.

Until then, we can enjoy this bright spot of yellow, the familiar daffodil.

  1. Thanks for the image of spring! And it’s a nice surprise to run into a description of the Olbrich Gardens. I was there in summer a few years ago, visiting my son in Madison. We all enjoyed the experience, especially the pools near the Thai Pavillion.

  3. Let’s see. Wordsworth loved his daffodils … While you did not likely find the daffodils while wandering lonely as a cloud and this is not beside a lake nor beneath the trees, the picture does fill my heart with pleasure at the sight of spring.

Golden daffodils (whether a host or not) are always a harbinger of spring and warm days to come.

    Nice photo

And William Wordsworth I am not (though I do like his poem).

  4. Spring is being entirely unfaithful this year so I don’t blame you for cheating. ;)

Beautiful photo of a beautiful flower. I look forward to your post on the Thai Pavilion.

  5. I’m so glad you can get away to the Botanical Gardens to enjoy some Spring flowers. It must have smelled wonderful in there. I hope your own gardens are blessed with Spring flowers very soon.

  7. Looking forward to the thai garden shots. The bright color definitely brings a spot of cheerfulness to this endless cold so many states have been experiencing.

  11. Ah! So many beautiful photos. It’s great that we have these botanical gardens around. There is so much to discover. I know what hardly any of it is called but it’s too late in the game to start with that. Lovely.
