Cheating on Spring

Daffodils

I do not feel bad about cheating on Spring at all. If she won’t give me flowers and color, I can always visit my sanity- saving hide-out, the city’s botanical gardens. Olbrich Gardens has several components, all of which I photograph with regularity.

Outside is a 16 acre display garden including the Rose Garden, Summer Garden, Formal Garden, Wildflower Gardens and the Thai Pavilion and Gardens to name a few. The Thai Pavilion is very unusual and I’ll do a photo post on the Pavilion in the next few days.

Indoor there is a tropical paradise, The Bolz Conservatory, which is a tropical rainforest in a pyramidal glass structure - canopy trees, exotics, waterfalls, orchids, free flying birds. All are a part of this, just a step away from Wisconsin’s winters.

The Gardens also sponsor shows around the year, and this daffodil was a part of “Spring in the City - An Urban Garden” held the week before Easter. (an indoor show, obviously)

So if my photo blog is an eclectic mix of orchids, winter gardens, tropical flowers and spring garden flowers - this is why.

I do hope to photograph my OWN gardens and the nearby woodlands’ wildflowers soon - hopefully in a few weeks.

Until then, we can enjoy this bright spot of yellow, the familiar daffodil.
