Robin in the Berries

Reaching for the Berries

My first robin sighting of the new spring!

Early this morning, I went searching for Spring at the Olbrich Gardens in Madison, Wisconsin - after yesterday’s 8 inch snowfall hid all hints of the new season. As I hiked through the gardens, leaving the first footprints of the day, I heard the sweet sounds of a bird chirping. My first robin.

And a very happy robin, aperch in a tree thick with berries.

ps. We’re at 99.6 inches of snow for the season - our old total snowfall record was 74 inches. Don’t you think we should have one more blast to reach the century mark? Well, if predictions for tomorrow are correct. . .

  5. What a fabulous shot; it’s almost a candid of a robin (which is no small feat) very nice. The bk drop of the bush is perfect! I cannot believe you still have berries how cool is that? Leave it to you Wisconsinites to make history! I’m not sure if I should pat you on the back and say “there, there” or congratulate you all. :) The good news? The Robin is implying that spring is here.

  8. I never knew there were several colors on the breast of the robin. Cool.

From what I’ve seen on your local news, your wish of hitting the century mark for snowfall has been granted. Are you folks going to shoot for my golf score now? If so, you’ll be real snow lovers (my score is well north of 100).

  9. montucky ~ yes, it seems late to be seeing my first robin this late in March. though with current weather, they are probably ruing their return to Wisconsin even now.

mon@rch, aullori, jpt ~ when I took this photo, I myself was surprised at catching a robin doing anything more than just sitting pretty.

AK ~ Alaskans must wait longer than WIsconsinites for a glance at a robin. oh dear.

jeanne, thanks. the branches made the total photo, I think.

gandalf ~ I hate to even wonder what your golfing score is.
