Seeded Earth

photography and thoughts about nature and travel in the Midwest

Following New Tracks

Taken in Middleton, Wisconsin (See more photos here)
43°5′ 39″ N, 89°28′ 50″ W

Ever start at a beginning and have no idea where the end will be, what the end will be? How difficult will it be to reach a resolution? I am at a new beginning, and wondering, worrying, wanting to take those first steps, yet also wanting to stay on the shore. Will the ice support me if I take my first steps away from the firm earth? How far will I travel to reach my goals?

  1. Whoo Hoo, first tracks (& comment).

Makes me wonder where they’re going. I can’t see the end. A rather contemplative picture. Snow can do that to you sometimes.

  2. I love the playfulness of this photo…how the eye naturally follows the tracks. It’s a cold scene, but doesn’t feel cold. (Does that make sense?)

  14. gandalf ~ it is rather contemplative, though I do think I see wildflowers across on the other shore.

bonnie ~ the lines certainly make for a fun ride. It doesn’t make you feel cold though?

    robin ~ thanks

jules ~ you are most welcome to take a turn at the helm. come help anytime.

preston ~ an ice shanty was pulled to the center of the lake; it had a large fiberglass, sled-like floor.

ankush ~ thanks, bet you don’t see this on the coast :-)

    mon@rch ~ still 30 inches and counting

alissa ~ you can ride in the bus with jules and me, but you gotta pay for the snacks.

nicole ~ you, too, can come along. Norway - now that’s a country I’d love to see.

  15. I love two things; first, that you kept the blue hue that snow often creates with a camera. Boy, does that set a mood for the viewer and I’m pretty sure it’s exactly the one you want to create. So nice work. Second, I love that the tracks do seem to blend off into nowhere. I was trying to hit on a similar idea over here - but way too many mountains - that flat landscape really does justice to the concept. In my case, every road went up and then disappeared - point lost - darn! This creates a much better look. Great work!

  16. Great leading lines in this, they do a great job in leading you thru the image, I like it :)

  17. Very cool photo in many ways. It even makes me think of a very old movie about life in Russian during the revolution. I just like it a lot. The other photos have moved away from nature and into some surrealist place that I’m not sure about. I will have to look at them more and see what happens.
