A tropical vine, this flower does look like it has captured a bit of the sky. Photographed in the Bolz Conservatory in Madison, Wisconsin’s Olbrich Gardens. The Bolz houses a tropical oasis in the midst of vicious winter just beyond its glass panes. Today you can go from a balmy 80˙amongst the flowers to -4˙F outside.
I’m still considering a move to a desert – maybe Death Valley would be warm enough!

I love the deep, deep blue and the detailed light outlining the flower…and the lovely green bud next to the flower.
I noticed your weather girl bundled up and it shows -8F. Yikes! And I’m complaining at 13 degrees F! (We do have a roaring, whipping, freezing wind going on.)
We are going to a huge garden show the first week in March and I will have my new macro lens. Flowers! Ahhh! I can’t wait!
Barbara, did you hand hold your camera or use a monopod while photographing flowers at the Bolz Conservatory?
Just love your macros!

I don’t feel so bad now. Temps here are just below freezing and not as cold as yours. Going to Death Valley might be a bit extreme but I’ll pack my bags and go visit “Water When Dry” with ya.

Very pretty! -4º! You are having much colder weather than we are!

This is a beautiful flower, and a wonderful photo. I love blue flowers. Perhaps this could be called a periwinkle color, but on my computer monitor it looks definitley blue!
Happy GTS,

jpt ~ thnks for lokking
Anna ~ I did hand hold with a lots of bracing against fences, walls, etc. Tripods aren’t allowed except for certain hours during the week. The p atha are narrow and crowded on weekends. But the displays are always spectacular. I’m thinking of getting one of those little wirey tripods that look like they are made out of balls. I think I could take that anywhere, especially for macros, but I don’t know anyone who has used one.
wiseacre ~ Death Valley too hot??? It finally hit FIFTEEN BELOW early this morning, so I’m not too sure about that.
montucky ~ you are supposed to be the one with those temps in the high mountains. What’s wrong with this picture?
Aiyana ~ Thanks. This is a favorite color of mine, and I was pretty happy with it.

now isn’t that brilliant? in composition. in color. I love the blackness in the background that forces the eye to focus on what the eye wants to see – the brilliant petals. In my opinion that is meaning behind wonderful nature photography – to give the eye exactly what it wants. Your nature photography does not condemn the eye for being greedy – it simply gives and that’s wonderful.

I am an artist, Oil paintings, but have been looking for a sky vine for 11 years!!!!! Your photo, is breathtaking, those I have seen & had in Fla. were covered with those waxy wonderful blue flowers ….I found a vine here in Ohio, going to try & raise it and keep it…..May even put a heat lamp over it for the winter…. Great job, Thanks Sally
